WE DO NOT HAVE ANY AGENT FOR MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES. APPLICANTS CAN SUBMIT THEIR MISCELLANEOUS APPLICATION IN PERSON AT THE COUNTER IN EMBASSY OF INDIA, CONSULAR WING, 2536 MASSACHUSETTS AVE NW, WASHINGTON, DC 20008 BETWEEN 10AM AND 12.30PM ON ALL WORKING DAYS (EXCEPT EMBASSY HOLIDAYS) OR SEND PAPERS BY POSTAL MAIL TO EMBASSY OF INDIA, CONSULAR WING, 2536 MASSACHUSETTS AVE NW, WASHINGTON, DC 20008.

There is no parking space available and the nearest metro station is Dupont Circle which is approximately 1 mile away. 

Please carry originals of all the supporting documents which you have enclosed with the application. The originals have to be shown to the consular officer. If applying by mail, Photocopy of all the supporting documents should be notarized.

Please apply only to Jurisdiction of Embassy of India, Washington D.C. (Bermuda, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia).

Each applicant for Miscellaneous Services has to give a separate money order/cashier’s check of US $2 (two) drawn in favour of Embassy of India- Washington DC for Indian Community Welfare Fee (ICWF) w.e.f. September 01, 2017. Cash is accepted at the counter only if applying in person.

• There is no need to take an appointment. Applicants could visit The Embassy on any working day between 10.00 AM - 12.30 PM. The service will be on first come first serve basis.    

• The Embassy reserves the right to reject attestation of documents the contents of which are objectionable or contrary to the Rules.

• The Embassy does not attest any document issued by authorities in India. If any document issued by authorities in India (such as birth and death certificates, affidavits, diplomas, marriage certificate and educational certificates issued by authorities in India ) are required to be presented to authorities in USA, these should be apostilled in India. The Ministry of Human Resources Development has launched a new portal - http://nori.ac.in for inviting online application for NORI. The online application on the portal has commenced from 27th February 2016. The Ministry will continue receiving physical form of application for the next 90 days from commencement of the new website. Post 90 days, physical application will not be accepted for the purpose

1 . Miscellaneous Services Form - Download the Miscellaneous Application form and fill it up carefully. Each applicant is required to fill up separate Miscellaneous Application form and affix his/her photograph on the same.

2. ORIGINAL Passport and Photocopy of the first five pages and last two pages of the current passport.

3. ORIGINAL and Photocopy of any one of the following as proof of your US Visa Status

(Please carry originals at the counter):

o Page containing visa on passport (H1B, H4 etc) and the copy of I-94

o Clear Photocopy of Green Card

o Employment Authorization Document (Work Permit)

o I-797, I-140 or I-20 (If approval copy of these notices are pending, also attach a handwritten note detailing the efforts being made to regularize status.)

4. ORIGINAL and Photocopy of any one of the following as proof of your current US residence address.

o U.S Driving license.

o Gas, Electricity, Water or landline telephone bill displaying applicant’s address

o House Lease Agreement

o State Identification Card

o Note: Bank/credit card/mobile phone statements are not accepted as residence proof. 

Fees :   A non-refundable fee of $ 60 (sixty ) for Stage I and $ 20 (twenty) for last stage.  Each applicant for Miscellaneous Services has to give a separate money order/cashier’s check  of US $2 (two) drawn in favor of Embassy of India- Washington DC for Indian Community Welfare Fee (ICWF) w.e.f. September 1, 2017. If you want to receive the attested documents back through mail, either  send a trackable pre-paid return mailing envelope (UPS or FEDEX etc.)  or enclose a money order/cashier’s check for $ 20 (twenty) payable to Embassy of India - Washington DC.
Fees should be paid through Money order or Cashiers’ cheque drawn in favor of the ‘Embassy of India, Washington DC’. Personal cheques, credit cards or other banking instruments are not accepted. Cash is accepted at the counter only if applying in person.

How to Apply:

STAGE I

• Miscellaneous Services Form - Download the Miscellaneous Application form and complete the application form.
• Attach the following documents with the application form. 
•  Current Indian passport in original and photocopy of the first five pages and last two pages of the current passports. 
• Proof of your US Visa Status:(copy of any one of the following) 
•  Photocopy of the page containing visa on passport (H1B, H4 etc) and the copy of I-94
•  Clear Photocopy of Green Card
•  Employment Authorization Document (Work Permit)
•  I-797, I-140 or I-20 (If approval copy of these notices are pending, also attach a handwritten note detailing the efforts being taken to regularize status)

• Complete the NORI form (including both parts, (i) bio data (pdf file)and (ii) affidavit) (pdf file)—in 6 (six) originals.  Notarized all 6 originals.  Submit all 6 originals (notarized)  and 2 photocopies.

• Fee of $ 60 (sixty)

• In case the Embassy receives applications with incomplete documentation, the same would be sent back unprocessed in the return envelope sent by the applicant.

STAGE II

On receipt of attested forms from the Embassy  of India, send two originals each to the following  address (Please read carefully the covering letter from the Embassy which would provide you addresses of the offices where you need to send your documents):

1.         The Regional Passport Office (where your passport was issued initially), in India,
2.         The Home Department of State in India you belong to.
3.         The Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Department, ES-5 Division, External Scholar Ship Division., 2nd floor, Wing-6, West Block -1, R.K. Puram, Delhi- 110 066 (Not applicable to Medical Doctors).
Please note that it is applicant’s responsibility to obtain clearances from the offices in India. Embassy will not pursue this on their behalf.

STAGE III

On receipt of clearance from all three offices mentioned above, send a copy of the all the three clearances alongwith the CASE NUMBER  ( For Details, Please visit https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/study-exchange/student/residency-waiver.html)  given by US Immigration authorities (www.uscis.gov ) to the Embassy of India, Washington DC, along with fee.
Fee :   A non-refundable fee of $ 20 (Twenty) for Stage III. If you want to receive the attested documents back through mail, either  send a trackable pre-paid return mailing envelope (UPS or FEDEX etc.)  or enclose a money order/cashier’s check for $ 20 (twenty) payable to Embassy of India - Washington DC. Fees should be paid through Money order or Cashiers’ cheque drawn in favor of the ‘Embassy of India, Washington DC’. Personal cheques, credit cards or other banking instruments are not accepted.

Processing Time :
• Applying in person:
o No fixed processing time. Depends on time taken in obtaining clearances from offices in India.
• Applying by mail:
o No fixed processing time. Depends on time taken in obtaining clearances from offices in India.
