WE DO NOT HAVE ANY AGENT FOR MISCELLANEOUS SERVICES. APPLICANTS CAN SUBMIT THEIR MISCELLANEOUS APPLICATION IN PERSON AT THE COUNTER IN EMBASSY OF INDIA, CONSULAR WING, 2536 MASSACHUSETTS AVE NW, WASHINGTON, DC 20008 BETWEEN 10AM AND 12.30PM ON ALL WORKING DAYS (EXCEPT EMBASSY HOLIDAYS) OR SEND PAPERS BY POSTAL MAIL TO EMBASSY OF INDIA, CONSULAR WING, 2536 MASSACHUSETTS AVE NW, WASHINGTON, DC 20008.

There is no parking space available and the nearest metro station is Dupont Circle which is approximately 1 mile away

Please carry originals of all the supporting documents which you have enclosed with the application. The originals have to be shown to the consular officer. If applying by mail, Photocopy of all the supporting documents should be notarized.

Please apply only to Jurisdiction of Embassy of India, Washington D.C. (Bermuda, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia).

• There is no need to take an appointment. Applicants could visit The Embassy on any working day between 10.00 AM - 12.30 PM. The service will be on first come first serve basis.
• The Embassy reserves the right to reject attestation of documents the contents of which are objectionable or contrary to the Rules.
• The Embassy does not attest any document issued by authorities in India. If any document issued by authorities in India (such as birth and death certificates, affidavits, diplomas, marriage certificate and educational certificates issued by authorities in India ) are required to be presented to authorities in USA, these should be apostilled in India. Applying In Person:

• Download the Miscellaneous Application form  and complete the application form. 

 • Attach the following documents with the application form. 

 • Current passport (either Indian or US) in original and photocopy of the first five pages and last two pages of the Indian passport and/or photocopy of first two pages of US passport. 

 • All the death documents to be attested (Original Death Certificate, embalming certificate from the mortuary, burial/transit permit, all originals and copy. No need to notarize.) Ascertain with Airlines their documentary requirements and obtain these from the mortuary/funeral home. 

 • In case the Embassy receives applications with incomplete documentation, the same would be sent back unprocessed in the return envelope sent by the applicant. 


Fees: For Indian passport holder: Gratis (No Fee).
For US passport holder: $ 40/- (if carrying ashes)
$ 60/-( if carrying mortal remains)
If you want to receive the attested documents back through mail, either send a trackable pre-paid return mailing envelope (UPS or FEDEX etc.) or enclose a money order/cashier's check for $ 20 (twenty) payable to Embassy of India - Washington DC.
Fees should be paid through Money order or Cashier's cheque drawn in favor of the 'Embassy of India, Washington DC'. Personal cheques, credit cards or other banking instruments are not accepted. Cash is accepted at the counter only if applying in person.

• Applying in person:
o Same day/next day (delivery of attested documents between 10 AM AND 12.30 PM)
• Applying by mail:
o 10(ten) business days excluding the time taken in mail
