Indian Embassy in Washington Organizes a Talk by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev on 'Relevance of Yoga in Modern Life' as a curtain raiser to celebrate First International Day of Yoga.

Embassy of India, Washington DC organized a Talk by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev on 'Relevance of Yoga in Modern Life' at the Embassy on May 11, 2015, which was a curtain-raiser yoga event to welcome the First International Day of Yoga (June 21, 2015). Indian Ambassador to the United States Arun K. Singh addressed the gathering.

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, during his Talk on 'Relevance of Yoga in Modern Life', emphasized the relevance of Yoga in today's world. He said that yoga helps one to make one's individual life a pleasant experience. While we may be the generation that enjoys most comforts and conveniences, we are not necessarily the most joyful and peaceful generation. The dimension of transforming into joyful human beings is what yoga is all about. Yoga is a tool and technology. While we have science and technology for external comfort, we should learn to use the tool and technology of yoga for internal well-being. Today about 2 billion people of the world are doing some form of yoga, and it should grow more, he said. At the end of his Talk, Sadhguru answered questions on Yoga from the audience.

During his remarks, Ambassador Arun K. Singh stated that Government of India is planning to celebrate the First International Day of Yoga in all countries, including USA.Indian Embassy would be organizing the First International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21st 2015 on the National Mall at Sylvan Theater in association with Yoga organizations in the region called as 'Friends of Yoga'. The event would be from 8:30am to 11:00am. It will be a free event open for public. We would be presenting an exclusive video message on the occasion by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event could also feature Yoga demonstrations by experts and Indian dance and music. Ambassador invited the audience to participate in the celebration with and bring more friends to participate in the celebration.

Ambassador recalled the words of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014: "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day." Ambassador Singh mentioned that on December 11, 2014, India introduced a draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly and the draft Resolution received unprecedented broad support from 177 countries and was adopted unanimously.
