Indo-U.S. Physician Exchange Program

There are 950,000 practicing physicians in the United States, out of them 45,000 are of Indian origin. In addition there are 10,000 U.S. physicians in training of Indian origin. Some of these physicians would like to visit India and provide their services and expertise. Similarly, some of the physicians in India would like to visit the United States to avail state of the art knowledge and practice in their specialty.

Recognizing the above need, an Indo-US Physician Exchange Programme has been launched by the American Professional Exchange Association (APXA) on May 20, 2010. APXA provides a free service that matches U.S. physicians with physicians in India for a voluntary and mutually agreed reciprocal visit. Under this program, hosts provide free lodging, board, and professional interactions to their visiting guests. These exchanges will prove beneficial – both professionally and culturally.

This program is supported by the U.S. State Department (Office of Professional and Cultural Exchanges); the American Medical Association (AMA) [International Medical Graduates (IMG) Section]; the World Health Organization (WHO – Global Health Workforce Alliance – GHWA); the Government of India; and the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI).
