Ambassador presents check for Five million Dollars to American Red Cross Washington, DC Ambassador Ronen Sen today
handed over a check for five million dollars to Marsha Evans, President and
CEO of the American Red Cross for relief activities in areas of the southern
United States affected by Hurricane Katrina. Ambassador Sen said that this
was "a token of the sympathy, support and solidarity" of the
Government and people of India for the people affected by this terrible
calamity. Officials of the American
Red Cross said that India was one of the first countries to follow up its
commitment of assistance. India had also offered
large water purifications systems for household and community level
operations, essential medicines, and a self-sustaining, self-supporting
medical team as well as divers and salvage experts. All these
personnel were experienced in handling such situations. Over the last few days India has also had two aircraft, which are ready to take off at short notice, loaded with over 50 tons of initial supplies, which had been indicated as priority requirements by US authorities. These aircraft will take off from Delhi immediately on receiving the green signal from the US authorities. |
