
URBAN AFFAIRS AND EMPLOYMENT MINISTER LEAVES FOR ISRAEL September 07, 1998 The Minister for Urban Affairs and Employment Shri Ram Jethmalani left here this morning for a six day long official tour of Israel. During his visit, Shri Jethmalani, will acquaint himself with the low cost, durable and disaster resistant housing infrastructure in Israel and explore the possibility of similar housing in India. The Minister will hold meeting with the Housing Minister of Israel. He will also hold meeting with Directors General of Disaster Management and Water Management of Israel. In addition, Shri Jethmalani will discuss with the Ministries of Infrastructure connected with the housing sector, the possibility of a tie-up with India in this sector, so that the gigantic task of building twenty lakh houses annualy in India under the New Housing and Habitat Policy-1998 is accomplished at a lesser cost than estimated. The Minister will also hold a meeting with Heads of major building industries of Israel. He will return on September 13, 1998 (morning). Israel has made a breakthrough in the low cost multipurpose, natural disasters like cyclones, floods and earthquakes resistant housing. The visit of Shri Jethmalani to Israel will go a long way in realizing cheaper housing for the poor and the down trodden so that houses for all in the country are realized. |
