Following is a press release issued in
New Delhi on allegations of nuclear weapons secrets

New Delhi
May 3, 1999

We have seen reports based on a New York Times report quoting a United States intelligence report that has listed India (along with China and Russia) for spying on the United States for nuclear weapons secrets. These allegations are malicious and completely baseless. India's nuclear program is an excellent example of indigenisation and the allegations appear motivated by a desire to tarnish the remarkable achievement and divert attention from a failure to prevent leakage of weapons technologies from US laboratories to other destinations which have been in news recently.
