IMPORTANT NOTICE

1. With effect from April 16, 2012, all passports submitted at the Embassy counter  till April 13, 2012 may be collected in person  from the Embassy  counter only  on the given dates between 10 AM to 12.30 PM.

2. Those received through mail would be sent as and when passports are ready. Those who had submitted passport application at the Embassy in person or by mail till April 13, 2012 may e-mail query at : passport[at]indiagov[dot]org.

3. Embassy of India in Washington DC has engaged M/S VFS Global as an outsourcing Agency for facilitating the process of obtaining passport related services with effect from April 16, 2012. The address of VFS Global is  Suite 103, 1625 K Street NW Washington DC 20036. It is setting up a website http://www.vfsglobal.com/india/usa and a Call Centre  with number +1-202-800-7412 for assistance to passport services seekers.  Applications can be submitted in person by appointments only, please call +1-202-391-0190 (9AM to 6PM) to schedule your appointment or delivered by mail on or after April 16, 2012 to the above mentioned address of VFS Global. 
Applications received at the Embassy after April 16, 2012 would be returned to the applicants after charging the return mailing fee.

EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT

GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS

An Emergency Certificate (one-way travel document), which authorizes an Indian citizen to enter India, is issued to individuals who have lost their passports or their passports have been stolen or damaged and to whom new passports cannot be issued without approval from India. This document is issued primarily with the objective of ensuring the applicant’s return to India in an emergency. Applicants should fill in the application form as prescribed for the issue of a new passport (see Application Form for an Indian Passport) and seek a personal interview with the Consular Officer whose decision will be final.

Note:

•To avoid inconvenience EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT applicants are requested to approach the Consular Wing with completed application and all necessary supporting documents.
