Measures undertaken by the Government of Maharashtra for Mumbai
Bomb Blasts affected people

Mumbai
July 12, 2006

1. A series of bomb blasts on the western line starting from 6.20 p.m. created a situation
of extreme panic in the city of Mumbai. There were seven bomb blasts within 20
minutes at different locations on the western line. These locations are: Mahim,
Matunga, Jogeshwari, Borivali, Mira Road, and Bhayander.

2. These bombs ripped apart the compartments of local trains, and were clearly aimed at
the commuters. The almost simultaneous explosion caused 151 deaths, while 471
people are injured. Ambulances were rushed to all the places, and the injured have
been brought to different hospitals in the City.

3. The Government has made all the arrangements to treat the injured in both public and
private hospitals free of cost. The Government has made appeal to all the private
hospitals to treat all the injured who are coming for admission. The Government
would meet the cost of their treatment. The Government has appointed a senior
officer for each of the major hospitals for the purpose of supervision and
coordination. There is sufficient stock of blood in all the hospitals. In Mumbai, 4,000
bottles of blood are available. More blood bottles would be made available from other
places in the state. The stock of medical supplies is adequate for meeting the
emergency situation.

4. The Government has announced an assistance of Rs. 100,000 for all the dead, and Rs.
50,000 for all injured. The Government is taking steps to ensure that the assistance is
disbursed as fast as possible.

5. The local services on the western line were suspended following the bomb blasts.
These services are being resumed. About 350 BEST buses have been deployed to
help the commuters reach their destinations. The Government is making all the efforts
to ensure that the people are sent home through these buses.

6. The Government has issued a high alert throughout the state. It is monitoring the
situation, and all the precautions are being taken to ensure that there is no threat to
peace and harmony in the state. The Hon. Chief Minister has issued an appeal to all
concerned to maintain peace in the state, and not get provoked by this dastardly act of
terrorism.
