1. The ground troops have achieved a significant success in the Dras sector. In an exceptionally well planned and executed operation, the gallant troops of 18th battalion, The Grenadiers captured Tiger Hill top on night 03/04 July 1999. Tiger hill, as you know, is the most dominating feature in Dras sector and with its capture, eviction of the enemy from other positions would be facilitated. In addition, enemy observation of National Highway 1A has also been eliminated to a large extent.

2. The attack was launched along three unexpected approaches, which completely surprised the enemy. As per the last reports received from the troops in contact, mopping up operations on Tiger Hill top are still in progress.

Award of Unit Citation to 18th Grenadiers

3. The Chief of Army Staff is pleased to make a special instant award of "Unit Citation" to 18th Battalion. The Grenadiers for their exceptionally gallant and sterling performance during the battles of Tololing on night 27/28 May 1999, Point 4590 on night 11/12 June 1999 and Three Pimples on night 28/29 June 1999. Their most significant achievement is the capture of Tiger Hill top on night 03/04 July 1999, wherein, the enemy was completely surprised.

4. The overall performance of the battalion during Operation Vijay has been exceptional and marked with exemplary valour and grit in the face of the enemy.
