Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in Washington, DC

MAHATMA GANDHI (1869-1948) was a pivotal world figure of the 20th century.  Gandhi renounced all worldly possession, devoting his life to work for the dignity and uplift of the downtrodden.  He kept non-violence and peaceful resistance at the heart of a campaign for India's struggle for freedom from British rule.

Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Prime Minister of India dedicated the Gandhi Memorial in the distinguished presence of H.E. William J. Clinton, President of the United States on September 16, 2000 during his state visit to the United States.
