Election Commission decides to hold Lok Sabha elections in Sept.-Oct.

The Presidential Proclamation dissolved the 12th Lok Sabha on the 26th April, 1999. It is, therefore, necessary in terms of the Constitution, that the new Lok Sabha is constituted and meets before the 21st October, 1999. This requires, the completion of the election process by the first week of October, 1999, in order to allow time for the remaining constitutional processes of constituting the new Government and summoning the First Session of the Lok Sabha, well before the 21st October, 1999.  (Details)
