EXCHANGE OF LETTERS CONSTITUTING AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA AND THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA CONCERNING LAND LEASE SETTLEMENT

DEAR MR. SCHNEIDER,

I refer to the Land Lease Settlement Agreement between our two Governments signed at Washington on May 16, 1946, as amended, and to subsequent discussions thereon, and propose the following understandings :

1. The Government of India proposes to credit within 30 days an amount of Rs. 14 million to the Rupee Account of the United  States Government maintained within the Public Account of the Government of India at the Reserve Bank of India; and

2. Such credit shall constitute fulfilment of all obligations. of the Government of India under the said Land Lease Settlement Agreement.

I propose that, if these understandings are acceptable to your Government, this letter and your reply concurring therein shall constitute an Agreement between our two Governments, effective on  the date of your reply.
